Beetroot seeds are small, round to slightly irregular in shape, often appearing brownish or gray with a rough, textured surface. They are technically a “seed cluster,” meaning each seed is actually a dried fruit containing several seeds inside, which often results in multiple seedlings sprouting from a single seed cluster.
These seeds are typically easy to handle and are planted directly in the soil. Beetroot seeds prefer cool to moderate climates for germination, and they can tolerate light frost, making them suitable for early spring or fall planting. They need well-draining, loose soil with plenty of organic matter, and they thrive in full sun. Generally, beetroot seeds germinate within 5–10 days, with optimal growth occurring at soil temperatures between 50–85°F (10–30°C).
